Trivia Question❓In what year was San Jose officially incorporated as a city? Answer at the bottom of the newsletter |
Willow Glen, now a lively neighborhood in San Jose, once stood as its own town before being annexed in 1936.
Originally a marshy expanse filled with willow trees between the Guadalupe River and Los Gatos Creek, the area underwent major transformation in the early 1900s as the wetlands were drained for farmland and urban growth.
Residents incorporated Willow Glen during the 1920s to block the Southern Pacific Railroad from cutting through their community.
By 1936, locals chose to join San Jose in exchange for critical infrastructure like a proper sewage system, ending Willow Glen’s short-lived independence.
Today, the neighborhood’s tree-lined streets, historic homes, and vibrant shops along Lincoln Avenue create a distinctive small-town charm.
New projects, like the approved seven-story building on 940 Willow Street, stir conversations about protecting Willow Glen's unique character amid ongoing change.
The community remains dedicated to honoring its history while moving forward with a welcoming spirit. Read More... |
The Santa Clara County Fair's decision to shift its dates from July to August has sparked outrage among youth farmers and other participants. Many are concerned that the change will conflict with other important events such as the county fair in San Mateo and the California State Fair, making it difficult for them to participate in multiple competitions. This shift also presents logistical challenges for participants who have already made commitments based on the previous July dates. In response to the outcry, fair officials have stated that they will consider revising the dates for future years based on feedback from participants. Despite this assurance, many youth farmers remain frustrated and disappointed by the decision to change the fair dates. Read More... |
Many homeowners are currently choosing to downsize due to various factors such as aging, lifestyle changes, financial considerations, and the desire for simpler living. Downsizing can be a smart decision for retirees looking to reduce housing costs, maintenance, and space, while also freeing up equity to fund their retirement. Additionally, the current real estate market conditions, including low inventory and high demand, are making it an advantageous time to sell larger homes and downsize to smaller, more affordable properties. Downsizing can also help homeowners reduce their environmental footprint, simplify their lives, and potentially move closer to family or desired amenities. Overall, the trend of downsizing is expected to continue as more homeowners evaluate their housing needs and make strategic decisions to improve their quality of life and financial well-being. When inheriting a home that you don't want, there are several key steps to take. Firstly, assess the financial implications of inheriting the property, such as any outstanding mortgage or taxes. Next, consult with a real estate lawyer to understand your rights and obligations regarding the inheritance. It's important to secure the property to prevent any burglaries or accidents, and notify the insurance company about the change in ownership. Consider the possibility of renting out the property in order to earn income from it, or selling it if it doesn't align with your long-term goals. If you decide to sell, hire a real estate agent to assist with the process and determine the market value of the property. Lastly, be prepared for potential emotional reactions from family members who may feel differently about the inheritance. By following these steps, you can effectively manage an inherited property that you don't want. Read More... |
