Best Buy's Santana Row Store to Close, Making Way for Life Time Fitness

After more than two decades, the Best Buy store at Santana Row in San Jose is set to close its doors on February 28, 2026.

 

This decision will affect approximately 60 employees, with layoffs scheduled to begin in March.

 

Some staff members may have opportunities to transfer to other Best Buy locations in the area.

 

The closure marks the end of an era for the 3090 Stevens Creek Boulevard location, which has been a cornerstone of Santana Row since its early days.

 

Originally, Best Buy was one of the few big-box retailers in the upscale shopping center, alongside The Container Store.

 

Replacing Best Buy is Life Time, a luxury fitness center that has signed a 15-year lease for the two-story, 60,000-square-foot space.

 

The new facility will offer a range of amenities, including state-of-the-art fitness areas, group studios, personal training services, yoga and Pilates classes, a café, work lounges, saunas, and hot tubs.

 

Additionally, a kids' academy will be available, catering to families in the community.

 

Meghan Akradi, Vice President of Real Estate at Life Time, expressed enthusiasm about the location, stating, "Santana Row is a great location. It's hard to do better than Santana Row in terms of iconic properties."

 

This transition reflects a broader trend in the retail industry, where traditional big-box stores are being replaced by experiential and service-oriented businesses.
